Law Professionals Supporting the Election Process
A message to election attorneys
As Election Day approaches, we want to extend our gratitude for the vital role you are playing in ensuring a fair and transparent process. We deeply appreciate the countless hours you’ve devoted to this effort, and the essential role you play in safeguarding our democracy.
In these challenging times, voters deserve nothing less than trust, transparency, and accuracy in every step of the election process. Your fellow citizens are counting on you to help maintain these standards. We know how much effort you’ve put into upholding these principles, and we trust that your professionalism will continue to guide you through Election Day and beyond.
The public’s confidence in our elections hinges on timely, clear results. Delayed outcomes can undermine trust in the process. Voters want to know the unofficial results on election night, and we know this is both possible and necessary to restore faith in our electoral system that has been eroded in recent years. Any delay should be fully and clearly explained, including what remains to be counted and why.
Equally important is ensuring that representatives from both parties are present at every step of the voting and counting process. Your role in providing oversight and legal support helps ensure this crucial element of fairness and transparency. While this may bring ‘opponents’ together in close quarters with election workers—sometimes in less-than-comfortable situations—this balance of representation is precisely what gives the public confidence that the process is being run fairly and impartially.
As an attorney volunteering in this critical role, you are helping to ensure that election officials can carry out their duties in full compliance with the law. They, like you, are bound by their oath and by state law to ensure the integrity of the election, and they must act in good faith and with full transparency. Thank you for laying the groundwork to make this a reality on November 5th and beyond.
Your role is vital to the integrity of this election. Upholding the law and ensuring that every legitimate vote is counted accurately is not only your responsibility—it is the cornerstone of maintaining public trust in our democratic system. As you carry out your duties, we encourage you to continue honoring your commitment to integrity and providing the transparency that voters expect and deserve.
Thank you once again for your service, dedication, and support. Your work will resonate long beyond Election Day.
Sincerely,
Melody Clarke
Executive Director
